A Brief History of the WEUSI Artist Collective

The WEUSI Artist Collective is an organization of African American Artist. The group was established in 1965 after separating from the Twentieth Century Artist. The origin five members were; Otto Neals ( He gave the group its' name WEUSI, a swahili word meaning Blackness ), Abdullah Aziz, G. Falcon Beazer, Tiawo Duvall and Rudy Irvin. The members of WEUSI created art invoking African themes and symbols. They explored the African American experience, past and present, in visual presentations.
